I’ll admit, the amount of excitement I exuded at the idea of getting three solid feet of red red red spreader bar into my hungry little hands was a little over the top. By the time it actually arrived, Roi was no longer entertaining my suggested scenes and uses with anything more than a faint eyebrown arch. Frequent use, however, has rendered this one of his favorite tools.

What’s Not So Awesome? As is always the case with spreader bars, particularly a design like this one, there is only “one size” of spread that cuffs can be snapped off to. As well, because the idea with this spreader bar is to simply snap off cuffs to the loops at the ends, the resulting victim will still have a decent range of wiggle, and depending on flexibility can likely restrict the space between their legs with some creative knee bending.

Rating:
Lets talk about the details of this thing, first. It’s three feet long, and made of a solid aluminum rod with attached eye bolts on its ends. To my untrained eye, this eye bolt-to-rod fusion seems to be done well with some delicate welding. However, it’s hard to say exactly how good that fusion is because the whole things is shellacked in a hard candy shell of flaming red paint. In short, it looks, feels and acts completely seamless. Interestingly, when put to the roll test, I discovered the bar had a slight (ever so slight) bend in it. Is this on purpose, or is this why the rod is being used as a spreader bar and not in construction? I don’t know.

Anyways, onwards. As it turns out, when snapped off to the spreader bar with ankle cuffs, I was able to almost completely close off access to my bits with some (slightly uncomfortable) torquing and twisting of my legs. I am a tall girl (almost six feet) and I am ever so grateful that I opeted for the three foot long spreader bar, not the two foot long one. The two foot one, I’m sure, I would render useless with ease. I think my recommendation is for a medium or tall person, or someone with crazy flexibility, to go for this bar – shorter, less flexible folks are better off staying at two feet.

The spreader bar can be used in a much more secure way by tying the ankles of the bottom to the bar with rope, forgoing the loops and instead binding off to the bar. This is exactly what you can do if you don’t have a spreader bar and want to hodge podge one from a broomstick. However, no broomstick will ever look as hot and red as this bar. The nice thing about tying off to the bar is that you can opt of a smaller size, or a tie farther up the legs (knees), just to toss it up and keep things interesting.

Cleanup is a snap – soap and water (10% bleach is you want to disinfect) wipe down and dry off. Storage is a challenge – it’s three feet long and very red – but everyone’s got a closet with an unused corner, somewhere. Right?

All in all, this was a lovely product that I am excited to have in my collection.
