ID Moments

PinkCherry.com sent me this cool new lube by ID called “Moments”. I really like it – so much so, I’m going to do something I never thought I would be able to do with a lube review – I’m giving it 5 stars. This lube is a great all around lube that has friendly ingredients, although there are two ingredients that could be the source of an allergic response in the occasional individual. It’s very cool because the main lubetastic ingredient is an organic alcohol called proplyene glycol that really sticks it out for the long haul. Combined with its thickness, this lube is worthy of any bedside activity.

I think I may have found a new favorite, which is great and honestly unprecedented. The bottle I was sent is 2.7oz (which has a nice grip built into the bottle), but it also comes in a sweet sweet 17.6oz pump bottle, which is really the optimal way to get yer lube on. Oh, and a note to my Canadian readers - PinkCherry.ca is the Canadian version of PinkCherry.com, which means buying without paying import fees! Huh-zah.

Best For: Anything, actually. This is a great lube to use for anything and everything in the bedroom.

Lame For: Nothing!

Do Not Use For: All systems go.

Overall Rating: ★★★★★

Ingredient Analysis:

Humectants (The slippery stuff that holds onto water) AND Thickners:

  1. Propylene Glycol – An organic alcohol that mixes with water but dries much more slowly, and maintains moisturizing properties in the process.
  2. Hydroxyethylcellulose – a derivative of plant cellulose that has been modified slightly so that it won’t get all solid (like plant cellulose normally is), thus mixing in nicely with water, and again nicely “gelling up” the mix.
  3. PEG a.k.a. Polyethylene Glycol – PEG is actually a name used for a large range of polymers of ethylene glycol (hence the name POLYethylene Glycol) that fall below a particular molecular weight. Long story short, however, they mix nicely with water and act to “gel up” the mix.

Emulsifiers (the stuff that makes the water mix nicely with the extracts/style ingredients):

  1. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer – A thickener that gels up watery systems without getting lumpy, while staying clear and colorless. This is interesting because it’s a synthetic polymer that acts like a starch in water; swelling up and forming a gel. Unfortunately(or is it fortunately?) this is a relatively new ingredient so there is not much data on its cosmetic safety, and nothing on long term effects. Still, it is approved for use, of course, and does not seem to have any health hazards associated with it.
  2. Hexylene Glycol – A solution thickener. It is classified as an irritant in the EU. It’s in this product in a low concentration, but it could be irritating to some.

Preservatives:

  1. Tetrahydroxypropyl Ethylenediamine – Acts to suppress the growth of bacteria and molds by keeping metal ions out of solution.
  2. Caprylyl Glycol – A molecule that mixes well with both organic oils and water, and acts to aid in the dissolution of some of the phenoxyethanol in the watery solution. It also acts as a broad spectrum preservative against bacteria, yeast and mold!
  3. Phenoxyethanol – A bacterioside that I am not all that nuts about. It can certainly be an irritant to some and shouldn’t be ingested in large doses, so use in moderation. As a perservative in a lube it’s probably not a huge deal.

Style Ingredients:

  1. Sucrolose – An artificial sweetener
  2. Flavor – Again, I hate how nebulous this term is, but such is life It’s some sort of food flavor, maybe green apple?

By The Numbers:

  1. Longevity: Holy long lasting lube batman!
  2. Rating: ★★★★★

  3. Slickness/Stickiness: This lube is slick and soft, but as it dries, it does get a bit tacky/friction-ish. When actually dry, my skin feels less smooth than normal, almost like the lube made my fingers tacky when it dried off.
  4. Rating: ★★★★☆

  5. Revive-ability: Very revive-able, if you manage to add more water before it dries up. However, it takes a few moments to turn the water back into lube – to hydrate the lube ingredients again.
  6. Rating: ★★★★☆

  7. Thickness: Decently thick! Not quite thick enough for fisting or anal sex, but pretty darned close.
  8. Rating: ★★★★☆

  9. Non-Irritation Factor: The ingredients are generally benign, but there are a few preservatives that may cause sensitivity, potentially. Also, the way it dries can make things a bit friction-y if you’re not being too careful.
  10. Rating: ★★★★☆

  11. Taste: The taste is quite sweet, but not unpleasant. I would have preferred this without the added sucralose. The flavor is like light green apple, otherwise.
  12. Rating: ★★★★☆

Sorry girl, you loose a reader now.. It took to long for me to find your ‘old style’ back here…

Sad! Well, as I have said before, if I were not doing reviews, I would just be not posting, cause my creative juices are being funneled into something else.

Still, I recently put a section called “recent hotness” in my side bar to help direct folks to non-review content.

By October, I’ll once again have more time and creative energy on my hands.

Red. Did this lube warm up when you applied it? It did on me which is weird because it is not supposed to. I’m wondering if I may have had some kind of reaction from it. I’ve tried it a few times now, and every time it warms up, like a feeling of thrush on my vulva for about 20 minutes and then goes away. Just curious if anyone else is having the same reaction to it. Thanks!

Nope, no warming on me at all, and I am usually quite sensitive to irritants. Hmm.
