Sex Is Fun: A Game Of Intimate Sexual Discovery
In Short: My limited experience with sex games has left a vaguely bitter taste in my mouth. I have never understood the point – the game is either boring, super vanilla, or totally freeform and uninspiring. Yikes, right? So my goodness, what a pleasant surprise to discover “Sex Is Fun†by the good folks at Great Sex Games.com (who sponsor the most excellent Sex Is Fun podcast). This game is fun to play, competitive enough to be interesting, and is full – FULL – of good stuff.
What’s Awesome? I’m sure anyone would agree – sex is indeed fun. What makes fun sex even more fun is variety and spontaneity. Now there are lots of ways to find variety – books, classes etc. – but spontaneity is a bit harder to get. That’s what’s cool about this game – Sex Is Fun not only inspires variety, it inspires spontaneity. And it’s actually pretty fun to play.
What’s Not So Awesome? Not much! Besides being only for heterosexual couples, this is a fabulous product.
Rating:

Sex Is Fun comes as an unassuming deck of cards. The cards divide into twelve piles – six for the guy, six for the girl (yes, that is the one negative to this game – it’s for a heterosexual couple – no two ways about it). The piles are all different topics: “Pillow Talkâ€, “Touch Testâ€, “Oral Actionâ€, “Sex Playâ€, “Kinky Actionâ€, “Act It Outâ€. Game play is very simple. The first to go picks a card and acts on it, then the other player reacts, and a point is assigned based on the outcome. The preverbal ante can be upped by playing an “I Dare You†or “Prove It!†card, upping the number of points on the line. At the end of the game, most points wins. Simple really. I’ve said it before, simple is sexy.
So most excellent game play and rule simplicity aside, what’s the game like? The cards are written to get you talking as a couple. The pillow talk category does this best – it is all about assessing your partner’s fantasies, desires and interests. This is the category that clues you into your lover’s secret desire to be spanked by a stern schoolmaster, or taken roughly by a dark and mysterious cat burglar. I laughed the most with this category – Roi and I know some things about each other exceedingly well, but I was still pleasantly surprised at some of his answers, and he with mine. Always more to explore, it seems.
The “Touch Test†pile asked questions about firmness of touches, location of caresses, and permission to do directed activities. The “Oral Action†pile was similar in nature, except all having to do with use of one’s mouth, and as you might imagine the “Sex Play†and “Kinky Action†were analogous in the same way. We found that with these cards, things that were answered with a yes were awfully tempting to try right away, and things that were answered with a no just generated more cool discussion.
As we worked through “Oral Actionâ€, I was highly amused to get a card that asked about preferences in licking substances off nipples – and the fourth option was tobasco sauce. The funniest part is that on the bottom of the card, in fine print, it says not to put tobasco on your nipples (you’d better believe I tried it – nothing to write home about).
By the time we had made it to the “Kinky Action†pile, Roi and I were tied. We tend to be competitive, so I was trying to fake him out with my answers but it wasn’t working. Against my better judgment I asked him to prove that he would wear my bra and panties. I lost points, yes, but for the rest of the game he sported a teal blue g-string, and I gotta say – was surprisingly sexy in it.
The “Act It Out†pile had some interesting challenges, all of which made me giggle. The cards direct you to do something after you’ve guessed which of the four options your partner will likely do. I am proud to say I was correct in assuming I would get fucked when I got on all fours pantyless – but let me tell you how sweet it was to get both a point and an orgasm out of the deal. Victory, it seems, was mine.
“Sex is Fun†got us talking about sex, laughing about sex, joking about sex, and best of all, having sex. It was a highly enjoyable game – I am impressed. I’d recommend it to any heterosexual couple.
