In A Nutshell: A double pinwheel that plugs into an e-stim unit to get electrified.

What’s Not So Awesome? The ‘electrified’ feature of this toy doesn’t work as it is supposed to; the design is fatally flawed.

The issue with the electrified double pinwheel is one of contact. When held perpendicular to the skin, a pinwheel touches the skin as a series of light, blunted pin pricks. This is really insufficient contact to allow for much of a current to flow, especially considering that both pin wheels need to have their pins touching simultaneously for the current to flow. So in order to make this a viable e-stim toy, a lot of pressure needs to be used (which is only ok in rare instances), or the wheels have to be turned sideways somewhat to extend the area of the pinwheel coming into contact with the skin. However, because the two pinwheels are fixed strongly together, it’s only really possible to do this effectively on fleshy/loose areas.

Due to my disappointment with the electrosex aspect of this double pinwheel, I’ve actually rigged up two individual pinwheels to play with and independent uni-polar devices, and the work great. The double pinwheel just does not work as an e-stim toy.

What’s Awesome? This is a lovely little accessory for an electrosex power box. It plugs into a 3.5mm port directly and is dipolar so is ready to use…just like that.

What’s Not so Awesome? The attachment of the cord should really be better sealed. And like many electrosex toys (and certainly all dipolar insertables) it is not shareable by virtue of the fact it can’t really be sanitized.

The Zeus electrosex bullet is great, really – simple, completely insertable and dipolar. It is, however, a tad misleading because it is NOT going to be a “simply slip into place and writhe under the electrical tremors” type of toy – because sadly, there is nothing about the bullet that anchors it into a good place, where it is in contact with loads of feel good nerves. Deep inside the vagina, the electroxsex bullet will feel likely next to nothing, even at highest intensity possible. Move it instead to the entrance of the vagina, it’s a completely different story – and quite easily a bit too intense.

Unfortunately, this bullet cannot be used anally – the cord is really insufficient for retrieval and using a condom is not an option because latex mutes electrical stimulation. And equally tragic, it can’t really be held and “tickled” around wet labia or whatnot because it requires both ends of the bullet (upper hemisphere and lower hemisphere) touch simultaneously for the circuit to be completed. So while not terrible when used as an external teasing object, there are better options.

Overall, not a terrible toy, but certainly nothing spectacular and not adaptable to different uses. Thanks to Extreme Restraints and Zeus Electrosex for letting me give it a whirl.

In A Nutshell: A cute, stand alone electrosex toy that also vibrate. A great ‘testing the waters’ toy.

What’s Awesome? The vibrations are powerful, the unit is stand alone and the control are simple.

What’s not so awesome? The variation of the electro-stimulation cannot be controlled and does cycle in patterns. The insertable portion cannot be sanitized at all.

The Zeus Vibrating Electrosex Kit is a nice starting point, but only really for those who really might not be so into it. Its still a hundred bucks and it still features an impressive learning curve, but it is stand alone and can be used, with batteries, right out of package.

There’s only on vibration setting – on – that is toggled by a button on the control pack. Also on the control pack is a plus and a minus, for e-stim intensity. There are eight intensity settings – ranging from from ho hum to crazy intense. There are also a number of patterns that play with different bursts of zappy-ness. Unfortunately, however, there is no way to choose a patterns, and the patterns change every three minutes, regardless of level of intensity, taking the sensations from (for example) deep throbs to light pain.

Also worth noting is the learning curve on this toy. Like all e-stim, it is not exactly intuitive. Notably, the sensations will be much more intense around the entrance of the vagina – and also will generally depending on where the contact with the poles is actually happening, and then also the lubrication factor. It’s a lot to sort out. As an anal probe, the toy is a bit more straightforward – but then is pretty long, all things considered, and really tough to clean well.

All in all, it just doesn’t quite hit the mark – but would be a decent starting and finishing point for someone skeptically trying e-stim. Otherwise, bypass and get a real unit.

But in other news, Zeus Electrosex released a Violet Wand recently – a basic model with three attachments but it clocks in under $230 (!!!!!!!). I want one. Viva la affordable e-stim!

There’s a yes and a no answer to that – like any hobby, you can start dropping money heavily, or just dabble – depending on how much you like it, more or less. Fortunately, with the modular aspect of electrosex, which is essentially:

One can “dabble” into electrosex (try out a beginner set) and will still find use for many of the components of that beginner sex, even if the powerbox or accessories have been upgraded.

So, anyways, of the three Power Boxes I have reviewed, which would I recommend and why? Well, all three are good – for very different reasons.

This box will massage you and caress you and make you cry (if that’s what you want). Solid, simple, and fun; plus it has excellent quality accessories.

Best “Beginner” Package – Beginner Electrosex Kit

Obvious, I know, but this kit is excellent for someone who thinks they are a “beginner” to electrosex. Even if, over time, you move onto more bad-ass accessories or a crazier power box, the components of this set will still be of use, as everything is high quality, useful, simple and direct.

Coolest Freaking Power Box (Plus My Personal Favorite) – Six Channel Electrosex Power Box

If you like electrosex, you’ll like this box. It’s fun, it’s multifunctional, and its kitchy cool. I’m totally in love with mine. This one comes with a higher price tag, but is still totally appropriate for a beginner, if you want to dive in headfirst.

Deluxe Digital Powerbox

This handheld TENS unit is sleek and simple, with excellent preset patterns that cannot be adjusted in any way except for intensity. This box offers a huge range of intensity, and a lot of fine control, but limits to preset patters and a preset time limit of 15 minutes.

Best For: Fast application of fun sensations. Extremely easy to use and quick to respond to changes in intensity.
Not As Good As..? The Beginner TENS unit for precision use in a scene – this box only lasts fifteen minutes, and only does heavily varied patterns. If I am using electricity during play, I want the pulse pattern to be simple.
Overall Usefulness? Very useful for someone casually interested in e-stim. This doesn’t take forever to figure out, and is cute and easy to use. Plus, it has an incredible range of intensities from gentle to terrible.

Beginner Electroxsex Kit

A hand held/belt clipped TENS unit with two channels, intensity modulated on each channel in isolation (but frequency common between the channels). Has three patterns – pulse, steady, and short/short/long pattern. Length and speed of pulses are control-able. It takes one 9V battery.

Price: $109.15
Power Source: a 9V battery
Best For: Quick and dirty electrosex use – no complicated patterns needed, just steady buzz or pulse, in a portable format.
Not As Good As..? The Deluxe Digital Power box, as a portable power box. It’s very limited – it only pulses, goes steady, or does a simple pattern.
Overall Usefulness? This is the unit I grab when I am playing with a new accessory for the first time. It’s controls are simple and easy to set.
Recommended For? A beginner who is REALLY interested in electrosex and plans to get a tabletop device at some point.

Six Channel Electrosex Power Box

A tabletop TENS style unit with six output ports. There are two “sides” to the machine, each with a knob that controls frequency, and on each side that frequency is split into three output ports, each with its own intensity dial – six channels in total. On top of this, there are six different ‘types’ of pulse the machine can give out.

Best For: An E-stim centered scene. There is room for six different plugins on this box, which means maximum twelve contact points. The patterns are easy to understand but are very fun and infinitely adjustable. Plus, it detects “accupoints”, or rather, sensitive spots.
Not As Good As..? This box is less portable than the others, and would get in the way of a scene with all sorts of movement and such in a way the others wouldn’t.
Overall Usefulness? It’s a great box – my top pick – but it’s big, clunky and awkward and hardly “portable”

In A Nutshell: This box runs on AAA batteries, has two output ports, and provides seven different massaging patterns in sixteen different levels of intensity. Included in the kit are two output wires that end in snaps, and four really excellent sticky pads.

What’s Not So Awesome? It will only run for fifteen minutes at a time, the seven patterns are what they are and cannot be altered, there is no “steady on” type of sensation available with this toy.

The Zeus Deluxe Digital Power Box takes three AAA batteries to work, and features two 2.5mm jack ports that are both controlled by the box’s eight buttons. Standard warning of not putting current across the chest cavity (and if that’s confusing, just keep it below the waist for simplicity) applies.

The power box is about the size and shape of a portable video game system, and fits very nicely into your hands as a result. “On” and “Off” are two half circle buttons beneath where your right thumb sits, and for the left thumb, it’s “Strong” and “Weak” (which means increase and decrease intensity). Simply plug in some tens pads (included in kit), turn on, and manipulate intensity…and you’re in business. Also on the left hand side of the box are two buttons “Automatic” and “Manual”, which, although confusingly named, cycle the box through its seven different patterns. The patterns are all actually pretty fun, and are as follows:

Acupuncture: a variety of very short wave bursts in a regular pattern. At lower intensities, it is an aggressive yet gentle stead prod. At higher intensities, it feels like a knife slicing into your skin.

Naprapathy: Also short wave bursts, but with more of an tatatat-pause-tatatat-pause type of regularity.

United Stroke: The waves are medium width, and there is a pattern of about 20 pulses then a break of a count of three or so.

Slow Stroke: The waves are medium width, and the pattern of how many pulses between breaks is shaped so that at first it’s just three, then six, then more, then more, then less, then less… This one feels the most like a massage to me.

Massage: A mixture of short waves and longer waves to simulate a steady massage like the sort one would get from a massage chair. It’s lovely.

Cupping: This one feels the most steady, but it tingles due to being incredibly rapid incredibly short length waves with a shaped intensity (shaped around whatever intensity level you set).

Scraping: This setting combines the cupping type of stimulation with the start stop type of stimulation seen in the acupuncture and naprapathy settings.

Now given that each of these patterns has 16 levels of intensity, and that within these 16 levels there are sensations ranging from plesent tingle to intense pain, that’s a lot to digest when learning to use this toy. I very quickly settled on some standbys:

1.Acupuncture gives intense painful sensations, so I use that when hurt is going to be part of the equation.
2.Massage works well for sexy times type play, when pain isn’t supposed to be part of the equation.
3.Intensity level 8 is a good rule of thumb for causing a reasonable level of pain. Don’t race beyond that level too fast or it might be *too* intense, and of course what a person can tolerate or likes will vary from person to person.
4.Intensity level 3 seems to be a good place to turn the unit to for gentle sexual type stimulation. Again, depends on the person.

All of the info (setting, intensity, time remaining) is shown visually on the screen. Of course, the more I played with this system, the more understanding I started to get about how the patterns work, and what feels good for me, and what seems to feel good on others. There is, as I have said, an impressive array of sensations available with this unit – and that’s not even taking into account placement of tens pads an other accessories!

This unit has wires that have snap connectors. Snap connectors are great because they can be pressed (and taped) onto metal objects with flat surfaces to electrify said metal object. I am thinking in particular of some metal cock rings, but even board surfaces like on large steel toys will work. However, you can certainly buy any number of accessories, lead wires, and adapters to help you use this box with any accessory you can dream of. One of my favorite accessories – a butterfly pad, is connected via snaps.

There are, however, limitations with this box. It only runs for 5, 10 or 15 minutes at a time (adjusted with the time button) and that’s final, no way around it. After time runs out, it turns off – you can of course, turn it on again and keep going. And you can’t adjust anything to do with frequency, speed of pulsation, or even just turn it on to steady intensity. Finally, if you have it set on “automatic” (just make sure you select your pattern with the “Manual” button), it adjusts the patterns and intensity automatically as your time runs down. A control freak like me gets very upset about stuff like that.

So all in all, this is an excellent unit, but for me, personally I prefer to have more control over what happens, so it is not my favorite. However, I actually think this would be my top recommendation for someone just looking to dabble in some electrosex without having to look at graphs and understand multiple dials and knobs…you know, the average sex toy consumer just looking for something that’s fun, not complicated.

In A Nutshell: A plug-and-play (dipolar) e- stim accessory that shoots current from metal studs on the penis ring to similar metal studs on the scrotum ring.

What’s Not So Awesome? The plug is incredibly cheaply made, basically no better than I could have fashioned from a twist tie and electrical tape. Normally, I could find redeeming value in this toy (the leather cock strap aspect of it is still ok) but it’s an electrosex toy. Thus, complete fail on the plug means complete fail. Period.

Unlike a penis sheath, which disperses the zap throughout the shaft, this toy is designed to send a charge from near the tip to behind the balls. From my many experimentations with estim toys, shooting the current down the cock (the way this toy should) would be pretty enjoyable to many men.

However. This toy is a piece of crap. The plug body (the plastic part you hold onto when pushing it into a jack) is just made with a thin plastic shell, a shell that crumbled with the tiniest application of pressure. This was the same thing I observed with the Zeus Electrosex Penis Sheath A thumbs down to Zeus Electrosex on the quality of these leather electrosex toys based on the quality of the plug. Such a simple thing! Such a FUNDAMENTAL thing.

Anyways, I digress. Beyond having a poorly designed outer shell, the plug on this toy is some random size. Certainly not 3.5mm…I would guess 3.6mm or 3.7mm…or what I believe happened somewhere in the production line, that an imperial sized plug was used. Given that all e-stim toy boxes under the Zeus label have either 2.5mm or 3.5mm ports, and every Zeus accessory I have seen has a 2.5mm or 3.5mm plug….I just find this inexcusable.

Make it better, Zeus, make it better. This could have been good, but as is, it’s shit.

In A Nutshell: A fun power-box that looks like an old-school instrument panel on a 1970′s computer. Lots of dials, lots of ports, and lots of clicking buttons and squealing frequency dials makes for a very fun electrosex experience.

What’s Not So Awesome? This box is kind of big, so while it’s technically portable it’s kind of a “stay put” toy. Also, this is quite clearly a electrotherapy unity originally designed for the Chinese accupressure/at-home eastern medicine market, so the manual is written in some pretty choppy English that leaves a few questions in my head about some of the subtleties of the controls. And it plays a song when the timer runs out, and no, the song isn’t something dungeon-eqse like Enigma, Rob Zombie, or Massive Attack (or whatever the kids are sceneing to these days) – it’s something that makes me think of Hello Kitty.

The Six Channel Deluxe Electrosex Power Box has one power source – that can be either 6C batteries, or plug in from the wall. This power source can be modulated by one of five wave type patterns that are selected via these deliciously clicky buttons on the front of the instrument panel – and are displayed visually on little oscilloscope screens. After selecting a waveform, the next thing to choose is the frequency. All of the waveforms can be sped up or slowed down with the frequency. Basically, you can take then from slow “pop, pop, pop” pulses to a steady humm, and anything in-between (oh, and yes, the machine does make pops and humms). There are two different frequency dials, one of each side of the machine, and each controls the frequency for three of the output jacks. Each of the output jacks has a dial that controls the overall intensity being put out through that jack. Now, in each of these jacks (which are 3.5mm, by the way) you can plug either “plug and play” accessory (accessories that contain both electrodes, like the torpedo plugs, or electrosex cock sheath, for example), or a two channel pin/snap/banana connector for a set of unipolar toys (like, for example, a tens pad, or the electrosex prod, two electrified toys…etc). That’s a heck of a lot of variety, and to be honest, I haven’t yet played to the limits of this box, but really can’t wait to let loose on an unsuspecting ass with twelve tens pads.

The Box turns on via a (non-clicking) on/off push button, and also via a timer dial in the upper left hand corner. When the timer ends, the unit plays a little cutsie song, which is surreal, but may be useful for particular scene negotiations and such (ok, I get 5 mins right? Listen for the cute little song and try and keep the screaming to a minimum, if you could…). The timer, however, can be set to just “on”, if you like to keep it simple. The other large dial on this box, in the upper left hand side, is the accupoint detector dial. It does nothing to the actual act of zapping, you can just plain ignore it when you’re electrosexin’ it up with this box. As I am ever the sadistic optimist, I see this as a great tool for threatening to jack up the intensity…see this? I have it set on one. Do you want me to put it higher…? But I digress. To detect accupoints the included accupoint pen needs to be plugged into a special port by the dial. If you touch the pen to an accupoint, the box makes a startling buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz till you lift the pen, and that buzz gets louder and softer by tuning the dial. It’s startling and great for effect – and otherwise, for locating the best places to zap – but has nothing to do with the main use of this box, otherwise.

To call this box “six channels” is a little bit of a misnomer – there are only really two channels, and to be honest, I’m not sure that they’re even on different circuits. I think I would error on the side of caution with this toy and assume that none of the channels are isolated. With electrosex, you never want to send the current across the chest cavity, and if you have doubts about what that really means about placement, best to keep it all below your waist.

All in all? I really like this toy. I enjoy the added psychological impact of the clicky buttons, pulsing oscilloscopes, and beeps and buzzes. Heck, I gotta be honest, I actually like the goofy little song it plays. Combined with the pile of accessories that come with the box, the kit is a pretty solid start to a great electrosex kit.

What’s Not So Awesome? Not much! I would have liked a few more ways of dividing the space, but that’s very specific to the needs I have with the case.

The FYN Bigfoot is made from satin lined PVC, and features a handle on top, a double zipper, and an adorable little lock (with two keys) for keeping your goods away from prying eyes. The BigFoot is 15”x5”x5”, and is touted as being “big enough to house a Fleshlight”. Now I don’t have a Fleshlight, but I know how big they (and other toys) can be, and yes, this case is big enough to house any product – sex dolls aside – that I can think of. That’s pretty cool. All of the stitching is robust and shows no sign of fraying, despite me being the usual hard customer I am on organization products.

Inside the case are a number of loops and pockets that will allow organization of accessories like lube bottles, batteries etc. The lid also has a few elastic loops across it to allow the containment of flat stuff – maybe a box of condoms or some instruction books. I use my BigFoot to contain all my e-stim stuff, so I have plenty of smaller accessories that want to get tucked aside into pockets and such. Well, fortunately the devious minds at Extreme Restraints have some up with a ingenious kit that will take any one of your standard sex toys and adapt it to take on and electrical current.

In A Nutshell: The “Electrify-It Kit” brings together the necessary adapter, lead wires and metallic sticky tape to turn your favorite toy into the electrified toy of your dreams – just add a power box and your favorite sex toy!

What’s Not So Awesome? Because this method of electrifying is just a matter of applying the copper tape to a toy, the whole system suffers from various issues. The attachment of the alligator clamps to the metallic take is awkward and cumbersome, the tape can be difficult to apply smoothly, and can also come free. The kit is also very expensive, and I daresay: overpriced.

This kit basically includes alligator clamps (as in, the ones reviewed here), the adapter necessary to attach them to a TENS unit or Zeus (or Rimba) Box, and some sticky backed conductive copper tape. As per my review of the alligator clamps, they have a jack that is 3.5mm in diameter, so they will work “fresh out of the box” with some E-stim units, but will require an adapter to fit the 2.5mm jack seen on TENS units and some power boxes. It’s nice, in general, to have this adapter and these alligator clamps, as an e-stim kit benefits from both very versatile and adaptable items. The adapter can be used with any accessory that requires such a conversion, and the alligator clamps can be used to directly electrify many metallic objects, limited only be their jaw size.

The real meat to this kit is the conductive copper tape, which is sticky back and can be applied to any hard sex toy or accessory. It can be used with softer toys, like rubber and silicone, but it will be very difficult to apply so that it stays put over time, and even lies flat and wrinkle free to begin with. On a harder toy that features very soft sloping textures, the tape can be applied so that it lies very flat and wrinkle free, and if allowed to really “cure” before being used, the tape will stay put through many uses.

If making a bipolar toy – something I have been calling “plug and play” – you need to make sure that the alligator clamps will be attaching to two distinct strips of copper. Remember, electricity takes the path of least resistance, and if you clamps both alligator clamps to the same strip of copper tape, the current will simply flow through the copper tape. But, if the alligator clamps are attached to separate pieces of tape, the electrical circuit must be completed (by skin contact), resulting in a jolt. The copper tape can be applied in any way that is desired, remembering that anywhere the copper contacts more copper the current will be spread out. The easiest way of doing this is taking a dildo and running a line of tape up either side of the toy – but if you wanted to get fancy, smaller pieces of tape could be used to cover broader areas around the vaginal entrance portion of the toy (or be placed into intricate designs…whatever!). The only thing to make sure of is that the copper tape areas that are acting as separate poles cannot touch, and that you need to create a place that the alligator clamps can pinch onto securely. If you’re looking to make something a bit more streamlined and a tad less bulky than the alligator clamps, any metalized connection spot from any lead wire can be taped (with electrical tape) so that it’s fixed up against the copper conductive tape. I find that the “snap adapters” that came with the “Electrosex Penis Bands” can be made to lie very flat and make a great option if being streamlined is important.

The “Electrify-It Kit” can also be used to create unipolar toys. Metal toys can be made conductive – but unipolar – by attaching a small piece of copper tape to a convenient place on the toy and than clipping off the alligator clamp to the copper tape. Similarly, a non metallic toy can be made into a unipolar toy by simply applying a strip (or design) of copper tape that is continuous and will only clip off to one alligator clamps. In any case of unipolar electrical toy, the circuit must be completed by applying some other unipolar accessory – anything from a tens pad to a whole other unipolar toy. The world, after all, is your oyster!

Unfortunately, I do find this kit to be inflated in price. Conductive copper tape can be purchased from better gardening stores as “Slug it” – slug repellent tape – and is generally less than $10 a roll. Just add alligator clamps and the proper adapter, and you’ve got a cheaper version of this kit, although perhaps with lower quality (thickness) of copper tape. Also unfortunately, this way of electrifying an accessory is fun and allows for a lot of versatility, but the tape will not stay put forever – especially when used with conductive lube – and will start to peel free after just a handful of uses. If you didn’t mind making something more permanent, I would recommend super gluing the ends of the tape to the toy.
